Spectra Slot Review

Every slot game has its own look and feel, and the Spectra slot is designed to take us into the future. It’s not the game to play if you like lots of detail, but Thunderkick Games has created an impressive game with a futuristic neon feel. With that said, it’s ironic that this is really a retro online slot game. Everything will become clear shortly.

Spectra Slot Introduction

The Spectra slot is a 5 x 4 online slot from the Thunderkick Games stable. They’ve opted for a futuristic theme that makes good use of neon colouring, although thankfully it’s not too demanding on the eyes.

It’s throwback Thunderkick, a tribute to old-school and retro, a very cool online slot!Adam Dale - Slotsquad
Retro video slots do seem to have their fans, and if you’re one of them you will probably enjoy playing the Spectra online slot. We doubt it will appeal to everyone, particularly those who like a lot of detail poured into their online slots. However, if you’re the kind of person who likes simplicity within their slots, and more traditional symbols to spin into play, this could be ideal for you. It does also have the potential for some big prizes, as you will shortly see.

Graphics and Playability

The graphics for this retro slot are more impressive than you may at first assume. The outline of each symbol glows, keeping up the neon effects, and this becomes more pronounced if you get a winning line.

As for playability, everything is quite understandable without taking too much time to explore the details. The nine white dots on the bottom left hide the instructions for the game and also the paytable. Meanwhile, you can click on the bet amount or the casino chip to adjust your bet level. There’s also an autoplay function if you want to use it.

Symbols and Payout Table

Once you’ve clicked on the nine white dots, you can click the cup to enter the paytable. The wild is a simple W, but there is no scatter symbol in action. Instead, you have bar, seven, bell and various other shapes you’ll probably have seen in other games before.

Pay Table if playing Spectra Slot for real money

One aspect to note about the paytable is that the prize amounts represent the prizes you can win for the bet level you have chosen. You can change your bet while viewing the paytable as well, which makes life easier for you if you want to see exactly what you could win.

Spectra Slot Features

The special features of the Spectra slot all centre around the wild W symbol. The first thing to remember is that the wilds always appear in stacks of four. You may not always get four in a stack though – it depends on where the reel stops. This means you could get one, two, three or all four showing on the screen (hence the four rows in play and not the usual three).

Thunderkick uses Wild Nudges in the Spectra Game

Whenever a new wild appears on the screen, you automatically get a respin. This could win you another prize for no additional bets. This applies regardless of whether you get a partial or full stack of wilds on the screen too. Even a single wild appearing anywhere will trigger that respin. Get another wild on the respin and you get another respin as well. During these respins, you will notice the wilds on the reels will remain in place. This gives you a good shot of getting one or more prizes on the extra spin.

There is also a wild nudge feature. This harks back to the classic nudge feature built into many traditional slot machines in casinos. If one, two or three wilds appear on a single reel, you’ll see an arrow appear that indicates where the wilds will move to. If they appear at the bottom of a reel, they’ll move up one space towards the top, and vice versa.

Say for example you get a single wild on the bottom row. It will be nudged upwards and another wild will appear as well. You’ll then get a respin to see whether you can get any new wins as a result.

Even though these are the only two features built into the game (there are no free spins and no bonus features), they do happen often enough to make things more interesting.

Betting and Payout Rate

You play according to fixed bet amounts in the Spectra slot game. Clicking on the bet amount opens up a window that allows you to choose from 14 fixed bets. These range from just 10p all the way to £100.

According to the game screen, you can win up to £240,000 on this game. This is mightily impressive. However, the biggest single win for five wilds on the maximum bet is £2,000. Clearly, the other game features have to come into play in terms of triggering that maximum prize-winning opportunity.

Finally, the return-to-player is given on the info page as 96.4%.

Slotsquad Summary

We’ve seen the Spectra slot from Thunderkick Games won’t be the ideal game for every slot player to try. Those who like a smooth, streamlined and classic game will probably enjoy it. Those who constantly search for slots packed with free spin opportunities and bonus features will probably be disappointed. But make no mistake – the Thunderkick Spectra online slot is definitely worth trying for size.
